How the Self-Cleaning Process Work
When the oven controls are set to CLEAN, the oven heats to temperaturesthat
are higher than those used for cooking. The high temperaturescause food soil
to burn off and substantiallydisappear.While this occurs,a device in the oven
vent helpsto consumenormalamounts of smoke. The oven is ventedthroughan
openingundertheair grilleon thetop of the range.

Jhe Self Cleaning Process
• Removethe roastingpanandany otherutensilsfromtheoven.Theseutensils
cannotwithstandthe hightemperaturesof the cleaningprocess.
• The oven rockscan be cleaned in the oven. However, the oven racks will
discolor, lose shininess,and becomedifficult to slide in and out if left in
the oven during the cleaningprocess.REMOVE RACKS FROM OVEN IF
THIS DISCOLORATION WILL BE OBJECTIONABLE. As a suggestion,do
not leave the racks in the oven during each self-cleaningprocessif they
do not needto be cleanedsincethey will discolorto a dull silverafter many
cleanings.Moderatelysoiled rackscan be cleanedwith a soapyS.O.S. pad
or Scotch-Brite scour-pad.Stubbornstainsneed to be removedin the self-
cleaningprocess.Be sure to readspecialtipson page 39 if ovenracks are
cleanedduringthe self-cleaningprocess.
• Cleanspattersandspillsfromthoseareas
which will not be cleaned duringthe self-
cleaningprocess:
--center frontof ovenanddoornearopen-
ing indoorgasket.
--porcelain ovendoor liner (area outside
the door gasket).
--stainlesssteelovenfrontframe.
NOTE: DO NOT CLEAN serial plate
locatedon the ovenfront.
To clean these areas, use hot water and
detergent,nonabrasivecleansersor soap
filledsteelwoolpads(rubwiththe brushed
grain on the ovenfront frame to prevent
scratching).Rinsethoroughly,beingcare-
ful notto usean excessiveamountof water
that would dampen the door gasket.So#
taft in these areas wi// be more difficuH to remove after the serf-cleaning
process since the high heat will bake on any soil that is present. DO NOT
USE COMMERCIAL OVEN CLEANERSTO CLEANTHESE AREAS.
• If youintendto usegrillwhencleaningthe oven,makesuregreasecontainer
is emptytopreventa possibleoverflow.
