Carriage
operation is
abnormal.
The carriage
moves slightly
and then stops.
There is a lack
of lubrication,
or foreign
material is
stuck on the
CR shaft or oil
pad.
Move the
carriage by
hand to check if
it moves
smoothly.
Check the CR
shaft and oil
pad to see if
they are
sufficiently
lubricated.
Replace
the oil
pad.
Remove
the CR
shaft,
clean it,
and then
lubricate
it.
The HP sensor
is defective.
Check the
operation of the
HP sensor. (See
Table 3-2.)
Replace
the HP
sensor.
Foreign
material is
lodged
between the
HP sensor
terminals.
Check the HP
sensor.
Remove
any
foreign
material.
The HP sensor
is not properly
connected to
CN4.
Check the
connection.
Connect
CN4.
The carriage
moves left
(toward the
home position)
and strikes the
printer frame.
The HP sensor
is defective.
Check the
operation of the
HP sensor. (See
Table 3-2.)
Replace
the HP
sensor.

The common
wires in the
print head FFC
are dis-
connected or
there is no
continuity.
Check the
common wires
in the print head
FFC.
Replace
the print
head FFC.
The printer
does not print
certain dots.
The print head
is defective.
Measure the coil
resistance of the
print head. It
should be
approx. 16.4 .
(See Table 3-1.)
Replace
the print
head.
The common
wires in the
print head FFC
are dis-
connected, or
there is no
continuity.
Check the
continuity in the
FFC.
Replace
the print
head FFC.
