Accessing the Perceive web application on the Perceive server
Chapter 1 Installing Perceive 51
Accessing the Perceive web application on the Perceive server
The Perceive server runs on the Apache Tomcat service. Apache Tomcat is third-party,
open-source Web server and servlet engine software
that enables the Perceive server to
interact with end users in a web browser
. Once Tomcat is running the Perceive server, you
can access it.
If you installed Tomcat as a Windows service to start automatically during
installation, the service starts. See “Accessing the Perceive web application on the
Perceive server” on page 51.
If you did not install Tomcat as a Windows service, you must manually start the Tomcat Web
Server that enablers Perceive. Refer to “Starting Perceive when Tomcat is not installed as a
service” on page 52.
To access Perceive
1 Enter the following URL:
http://machine_name:port_number/qtv
■ machine_name is the computer on which Perceive was installed
■ port_number is the port number (default is 8080)
2 If, after specifying the machine name, the machine is not accessible, you might also
have to type the domain name and port number, in the following syntax:
http://<machine_name>.<domain_name>:<port_number>/qtv
■ machine_name is the computer on which Perceive was installed
■ domain_name is the name of the domain in which the computer is located
■ port_number is the port number (default is 8080)
Starting Perceive with Tomcat running as a service
When you install Perceive on Microsoft Windows systems, you can install Tomcat as
a service and specify to start Tomcat automatically after installation (see step 10 on
page 32). This means that the Perceive server is instantly accessible to end users
through the specified URL.
