
TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
CAUSE
• Weak or dead battery.
• Corroded battery terminals.
• Loose or damaged wiring.
• Faulty solenoid or starter.
PROBLEM
Engine clicks but
will not start
Loss of power • Cutting too much grass/too
fast.
• Throttle in "CHOKE"
position.
• Build-up of grass, leaves
and trash under mower.
• Dirty air filter.
• Low oil level/dirty oil.
• Faulty spark plug.
• Dirty fuel filter.
• Stale or dirty fuel.
• Water in fuel.
Spark plug wire loose.
• Dirty engine air screen/fins.
• Dirty/clogged muffler.
• Loose or damaged wiring.
• Carburetor out of
adjustment.
_. Engine valves out of
adjustment.
CORRECTION
• Recharge or replace battery.
• Clean battery terminals.
• Check all wiring.
• Check/replace solenoid or
starter.
• Set in "Higher Cut" position/
reduce speed.
• Adjust throttle control.
• Clean underside of mower
housing.
• Clean/replace air filter.
• Check oil level/change oil.
• Clean and regap or change
spark plug.
• Replace fuel filter.
• Drain fuel tank and refill with
fresh gasoline.
• Drain fuel tank and Carbure
tor, refill tank with fresh
gasoline and replace fuel
filter.
• Connect and tighten spark
plug wire.
• Clean engine air screen/fins.
• Clean/replace muffler.
• Check all wiring.
• See "To Adjust Carburetor" in
Service Adjustments section.
• Contact an authorized
service center/department.
Excessive • Worn, bent or loose blade. • Replace blade.
vibration Tighten blade bolt.
• Bent blade mandrel. • Replace blade mandrel.
• Loose/damaged part(s). • Tighten loose part(s).
Replace damaged parts.
Engine continues
to run
when operator
leaves seat
with attachment
clutch engaged
• Faulty operator-safety
presence control system.
Check wiring, switches and
connections. If not
corrected, contact an autho
