Playing DifferentPreset Sounds
(Play Mode)
Youcanselectasoundforyourperformancefrom61preset
sounds.Eachsoundalreadyhasasuitableeectapplied.
When you turn the unit on or stop song playback, the unit will en-
ter Play mode.
1. While pressing and holding down the SOUND button (lo-
cated on the top panel), press one of the keys ranging from
C2 to C7.
The sound will change depending on the key that you press.
(See"SoundandSongList"onthenextpage.)ShortPhrase
sounds are assigned to the black keys.
Whenyouturntheuniton,thedefaultsound(GrandPiano)will
be selected.
What are Short Phrase sounds?
Twenty-veShortPhrasesoundsareassignedtotheblackkeys.
If you select one of these sounds by pressing the correspond-
ing black key, the microPIANO will automatically play the pro-
grammedphrase.TheseShortPhrasesincludeaccompaniment
tunesincluding(thoseoenheardplayedwithabarrel(roller)
organ),partofafamouspieceforpipeorgans,ashortpiano
phrase of low-range accompaniment typically played by the
lehand(sothatyoucanplayamelodywithyourrighthand),
etc.
Listening to Songs (Song Mode)
The microPIANO features 40 songs.
Eachsongusesanappropriatesoundandeect.
1. WhilepressingandholdingdowntheSONGbuon,press
one of the keys ranging from C2 to D

Playbackstartsfromtheselectedsong(see"SoundandSong
List"onthenextpage),thencontinuesandrepeatsallofthe
songs in ascending order until you stop playback.
2. PresstheSONGbuonagaintostopplayback.
Youcanselectadierentsongbypressingandholdingdown
theSONGbuttonandpressingoneofthekeyswithinthat
range.
Playingthekeyboardwhilelisteningtoasong
You can play the keyboard using your favorite preset sound
while listening to a song.
Whileasongisplaying,pressandholddowntheSOUNDbut-
ton and press one of the keys ranging from C2 to C7 to select
your favorite sound.
Youcanalsoselectadierentpresetsound(foryourperfor-
mance)inPlayModebeforethesongstartsplayingback.
If you select a preset sound during playback of a song, the ef-
fect that’s applied to the selected preset sound will also be ap-
pliedtothecurrentsong.Ifyouswitchtoadierentsong,the
eectthat’sappliedtotheselectedsongwillalsobeappliedto
the preset sound of your performance on the keyboard.

Eachsongusesarecommendedpresetsound.Youcanswitchthis
sound to one of your choosing.

buonsonthetoppanel,pressoneofthekeysrangingfrom
C2 to D

List"onthenextpage),thencontinuesandrepeatsallofthe
songs in ascending order until you stop the playback.
2. While the song is playing, on the top panel press and hold
downtheSOUNDbuonandpressoneofthekeysranging
fromC2toC7toselectadierentsound.
The song will start using the newly selected preset sound.
YoucanalsoselectasoundinPlayModebeforeyoustartplay-
ing back the song.
3. Tostopplayback,presstheSOUNDandSONGbuonssi-
multaneously.
Youcanselectadierentsongbypressingandholdingdown
theSOUNDandSONGbuonsandpressingoneofthekeys
within that range.
YoucanalsoselectasonginSongmode.Todoso,pressand
holddowntheSONGbuontostopplayback,andenterSong
mode while pressing a desired key to select the song.
YoucannotselectthepresetShortPhrasesoundsthatareas-
signedtoblackkeys.Ifyouselectanyofthem,MusicBox1will
automatically be selected.

Insomecases,asongmaybewrieninadicultkey(e.g.,using
manyblackkeys),oryoumaywishtoshithekeytomatchan-
otherinstrumentorvocalist.Insuchcases,youcantranspose(shi
thekey)touseaneasierngering,ortousethesamefamiliarn-
geringtoplayinadierentkey.Youcanshithekeyinarangeof
eleven semitones.
For example if you transpose upward by one semitone, playing the
notesshowninthescoreonthelebelowwillproducethepitches
shown in the score on the right.
