■ Metal, suchas twist-ties,
poultrypinsor gold-rimmed
dishes,in the microwave.
■ Recycled paper towels
containingsmall metal pieces
beingused inthemicrowave.
■ Donotpop popcorn in your
microwaveovenunlessin a
specialmicrowave popcorn
accessory or unlessyou use
popcornlabeled for usein
microwaveovens.
■ Donotboileggsin a
microwaveoven. Pressure
will build up insideegg yolk
and willcause it to burst,
possibly resulting in injury.
■ Operatingthe microwave
with no food insidefor more
than a minute or two may
causedamageto the oven
and could starta fire.
Itincreases theheat around
the magnetron and can
shorten the life of the oven.
■ Foods withunbroken outer
“skin” such as potatoes,hot
dogs,sausages, tomatoes,
apples,chickenliversand other
gibletsand eggyolks should
bepiercedto allow steam to
escape duringcooking.
