thebatteryvoltagemaybedrainedto
thepointwherethebatteryhasinsufficientreservepowertostartthevehicle.
Itmaybeadvisabletooperatethe inverterfromabankofbatteriesofthesametypeina"parallel"
configuration.Twosuchbatterieswillgeneratetwicetheamp/hours
ofasinglebattery;threebatteries
willgeneratethreetimestheamp/hoursandsoon.
Thetypeofbatteryyouusetopoweryourinverterisimportant.Batteriesdesignedtostartengineshave
multiplelayersofverythinplates.Theseprovideextensivesurfaceareathatwillproduceapowerfulshort
burstofelectricalpowerrequiredtostartcombustionengines.Usinganinverterwillcauseabatteryto
dischargeandrechargeoften.Werecommendthatyouuseadifferenttypeofbatterythatisdesigned
specificallyforthistypeofloadrequirement.Deepcycle(marine)batteriesg enerallyhavethehighest
reserve
ratings.Theyaredesignedwiththickerplatesmakingthemcapableofwithstandingrepeated
completedrainsofpowerandrecharging.Ifyoudonotha veadeep cyclebatterywerecommendthatyou
runtheengineofyourvehiclewhenoperatingtheinverter.
ConnectionCableGauges
Whenconnectingtheinvertertothepowersourceusethethickestwireavailable,intheshortes tlengthpractical.
Iftheinverterandthebatteryarepositionedwithinfourfeetofeachother,aminimumof#4gaugewireshould
beusedtomaketheconnections.Whenthedistancebetweenth em
isfourtosixfeet,aminimumof#2gauge
wireisrequired.Whenseparatedbymorethansixfeet,alwaysuse#0gaugewire.Seethelastpageofthis
manualforrecommendations.
ConnectingYourInverter
1. MakesuretheON/OFFrockerswitchlocatedonthefrontpaneloftheinverterisintheOFF(0)position.
2. Connectthecablestothepowerinputterminalsattherearoftheinverter.Makesuretomatchthenegative
(Black)terminalonthe12voltpowersourcefirst.
Thenrepeatthisprocedurewiththepositive(Red)terminal
connectingawiretothepositiveterminalofthe12vvoltpowersource.Makesurethatyouhaveagood
secureconnection,butdonotovertightenthesescrews.
Note
Looseconnectionscanresultinaseveredecreaseinvoltage,whichmaycausedamagetothewiresand
insulation.
Failuretomakeaproperconnectionbetweentheinverterandthepowersourcewillresultinreverse
polarity.Reversepolaritywillblowtheinternalfusesintheinverterandmay
causepermanentdamageto
theinverter.Damagecausedbyreversepolarityisnotcoveredunderthewarranty.
MakingtheconnectionbetweenthePositiveterminalsmaycauseasparkasaresultofcurrentflowingto
chargecapacitorswithintheinverter.Thisisanormaloccurrence.Duetothepossibility
ofsparking,
however,itisextremelyimportantthatboththeinverterandthe12voltbatterybepositionedfarfrom
anypossiblesourceofflammablefumesorgases.Failuretoheedthiswarningcouldresultinfireor
explosion.
