3. Conclusion: The reserve power of a battery with a 150 reserve minutes rating is sufficient to satisfy the
continuousloaddemandplacedontheinverterforamaximumofaboutonehour.(45amps/hour‐ampdraw
=1hour).
Note:
• Whentheinverterwi llbeoperatingapplianceswithhighcontinuousloadratingsforextendedperiods,it
isnotadvisabletopowertheinverterwiththesamebatteryusedtopoweryourcarortruck.Ifthecaror
truckbatteryisutilized foranextendedperiod,itispossiblethat
thebatteryvoltagemaybedrainedto
thepointwherethebatteryhasinsufficientreservepowertostartthevehicle.
• It may be advisable to operatethe inverter from a bank ofbatteries of the same type ina "parallel"
configuration.Twosuchbatterieswillgeneratetwicetheamp/hours
ofasinglebattery;threebatteries
willgeneratethreetimestheamp/hoursandsoon.
• Thetypeofbatteryyouusetopoweryourinverterisimportant.Batteriesdesignedtostartengineshave
multiplelayersofverythinplates.Theseprovideextensivesurfaceareathatwillproduceapowerfulshort
burstofelectricalpowerrequiredtostartcombustionengines.Usinganinverterwillcauseabatteryto
dischargeandrechargeoften.Werecommendthatyouuseadifferenttypeofbatterythatisdesigned
specifically for thistypeof loadrequirement. Deepcycle(marine) batteries g enerally havethehighest
reserve
ratings. They are designed with thicker plates making them capable of withstanding repeated
completedrainsofpowerandrecharging.Ifyoudonotha veadeep cyclebatterywerecommendthatyou
runtheengineofyourvehiclewhenoperatingtheinverter.
ConnectionCableGauges
Whenconnectingtheinvertertothepowersourceusethethickestwireavailable,intheshortes tlengthpractical.
Iftheinverterandthebatteryarepositionedwithinfourfeetofeachother,aminimumof#4gaugewireshould
beusedtomaketheconnections.Whenthedistancebetweenth em
isfourtosixfeet,aminimumof#2gauge
wireis required. When separated bymorethan six feet, always use#0 gauge wire.Seethe last pageof this
manualforrecommendations.
ConnectingYourInverter
1. MakesuretheON/OFFrockerswitchlocatedonthefrontpaneloftheinverterisintheOFF(0)position.
2. Connectthecablestothepowerinputterminalsattherearoftheinverter.Makesuretomatchthenegative
(Black)terminalonthe12voltpowersourcefirst.
Thenrepeatthisprocedurewiththepositive(Red)terminal
connectingawiretothepositiveterminalofthe12vvoltpowersource.Makesurethatyouhaveagood
secureconnection,butdonotovertightenthesescrews.
Note
• Looseconnectionscanresultinaseveredecreaseinvoltage,whichmaycausedamagetothewiresand
insulation.
• Failuretomakeaproperconnectionbetweentheinverterandthepowersourcewillresultinreverse
polarity.Reversepolaritywillblowtheinternalfusesintheinverterandmay
causepermanentdamageto
theinverter.Damagecausedbyreversepolarityisnotcoveredunderthewarranty.
• MakingtheconnectionbetweenthePositiveterminalsmaycauseasparkasaresultofcurrentflowingto
charge capacitors within the inverter. This is a normal occurrence. Due to the possibility
of sparking,
however,itisextremelyimportantthatboththeinverterandthe12voltbatterybepositionedfarfrom
any possible source of flammable fumes or gases. Failure to heed this warning could result in fire or
explosion.
